Student Tips & Info

Hey, What’s New for Students In… THE E-GUIDE? …the Electronic Database Version of the Business Profiles Shown in the Career Guide.

Changes have occurred during the past year and we are ready to fill you in on all of the improvements we’ve made to the E-Guide. Just like before, directory entries will be updated and new businesses will be added daily, so check out the E-Guide often for the latest information about career opportunities.

  • Access the E-Guide from any computer by logging onto the HCSR website at www.hanovercareers.org.

  • Click on the User Login button at the top of the Home page.

  • If you have been using “careers” and “hanover” as your login and password or if you have never before accessed the E-Guide, click on New User to sign up for your new account and create your personal login ID and password. (The old login and password, “careers” and “hanover,” have been retired.)

  • When your account has been successfully completed, continue to the main Student Menu where you can Add a personal profile. (see boxes) for more about personal profiles). Why add a Personal Profile?

  • Once you have set up your profile you can check out career resource opportunities on the HCSR E-Guide or check for new HCSR Help Wanted listings.

  • Also new on the E-Guide are easier searches. You can look for a specific business by scrolling an alphabetical list in the Company Lookup or you can narrow your search by selecting your preferred choices from Geographic Areas, Career Areas, or one of 17 choices under Workplace Learning, Training Opportunities and On-the-Job Training. The results are now displayed in a manner that makes selection much faster.

Is the Personal Profile Safe?

  • It is safe. No student name is required.

  • All profiles remain anonymous.

  • E-mail addresses will be used only for automatically generated notices created by the program software.

  • No one has access to the profile information except the individual creating it.

  • No businesses will ever be able to contact a student.

  • All student-to-business contact will be initiated by the student and/or parent.

Why add a Personal Profile?

  • Users will have unique passwords and won’t have to remember one created by someone else.

  • Students will be able to receive an automatic email notice about newly entered business listings that match their areas of interest.

  • Having unique user ID’s will allow HCSR to accumulate data on the overall usage of E-Guide.

  • HCSR can provide hit counts to businesses to track student interest in what they offer.

  • HCSR can use data to create more resources that meet students’ preferences based on user history.
